Video conferencing app Google Meet will continue hosting unlimited video calls up to 24 hours as its parent company, Google, announced the extension of the service until March 2021.
This was announced a day before the supposed deadline to access the app’s free feature on September 30.
“As we look ahead to a holiday season with less travel and important milestones like family reunions, PTA meetings and weddings hosted over video, we want to continue helping those who rely on Meet to stay in touch over the coming months,” said Google Meet’s group product manager, Samir Pradhan, in a blog post.
Earlier this year, Google announced that unlimited-length meetings using the said video chat application would be free of charge to all users along with other advanced features until the end of September:
“Meetings are limited to 60 minutes for the free product, though we won’t enforce this time limit until after September 30.”
Under this service, anyone with a Google account can access meetings with up to 100 people with unlimited time at no cost.
However, the digital corporation confirmed to The Verge that they still hold their decision about the timeline of the app’s advanced features G Suite and G Suite for Education services such as meetings with over 250 participants and the ability to save the meeting on Google Drive, which ended on September 30.
Google Meet is one of the popular video conferencing applications nowadays – along with Zoom and Discord – that is being used on online classes, business meetings, and other virtual gatherings amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
